Til the Boys Come Home Pg 7

ALEX Yeah, yeah, yeah. (Smiles at JOE) Guard my chair for me. I’ll be back.

TONY (Has been casting glances at CHRISTINE and looking very nervous. JIMMY and RALPHIE have been urging him into action) Christine? (Pushes his chair beside hers, stretches and puts his arm around her) Wanna see my magic act?

CHRISTINE (Looks at his hand as if it were a bug) Yeah, sure. (And then with a contemptuous look at TONY) Can you...disappear? (CHRISTINE turns to MEGHAN and they laugh)

TONY (Feeling stupid-looks quickly around for another audience) Ralphie? How bout you? Wanna see my magic act?

RALPHIE Yeah! I like magic! For my birthday, my daddy took me to see the theatre, and they had this magician…the great…

TONY Ralphie, you’re spoilin’ the moment… (He pulls out a well-worn deck of cards.)

RALPHIE Oh sure, Sorry bout that.

TONY (Fanning the cards) Pick a card…Any card.

(RALPHIE picks a card and is about to show it to TONY)

TONY No stupid! Don’t show it to me. If you show it to me it wouldn’t be magic, now would it?

RALPHIE Gee, Tony, I’m sorry.

TONY Don’t be sorry, be quiet. Now, the thing is; you’re not gonna believe this, but I have…x-ray vision!. You didn’t know that…did you?

RALPHIE (Awestruck) No…
