What Charles looks for. A play needs to affect an audience in some way, to engage them in every way. A writer's words must be able to work in the three-dimensional world of live theatre. The writer should be aware of how theatre works, of how lights, sets, sound, blocking and acting affect the action on stage. A one act play should be able to travel light, to be quickly set up and taken down. Most of all, the writer should have something to say, should have a unique voice. With mere words, the writer can create a whole world.
