This class is now full

We are proud to announce our Musical Theatre class title for 2018:
Disney's The Lion King JR

Music and Lyrics by Elton John & Tim Rice
Additional Music and Lyrics by
Leba M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and Hans Zimmer
Book by
Roger Allers & Irene Mecchi
Based on the Broadway production directed by
Julie Taymoor

Class will start January 8, 2018. The time commitment for the course is about 6 hours per week, until two weeks before opening, when it increases to 8 (or more) hours per week. Classes are held in the early evenings at our studio in St. Andrew's Presbyterian church. Performances will take place in the Grand Theatre in the Baby Grand. Performances are the weeks of April 8-21, 2018.

Please scroll through the calendar below to see the rehearsal/class times for this project. I have tried to stick to Mon/Wed/Fri rehearsals, however, holidays and March Break change things somewhat, and the weeks before the performances are busier. You can see each month if you use the arrow keys. We start Jan. 8.

We choose shows that have appeal to young people and that support large casts, and role sharing. Every student who enrols in the class is guaranteed a place on stage as an actor in the production. There are no prerequisites for enrolment - if you have an interest, we will train you! When possible, we share roles so that more students get a taste of being both chorus and a named role. The class runs like a production, and the show is performed ove r a two-week run for a paying audience in a proper theatre, with lights, sound, set, costumes - the works!

Over the years, our musical theatre students have performed Sweeney Todd, Willy Wonka, Aladdin, Little Red Riding Hood, Snowdrops for Katya, Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Into the Woods JR, Shrek JR and James and the Giant Peach JR. The process of rehearsing a show helps to create bonds that last a lifetime, and our students and their families are proud of the results of their hard work.
