Theatre in Kingston

Kingston, Ontario is a small city with a large arts community. Theatre arts are well-represented by many groups, mostly amateur companies who have a love of performing, and who enjoy the work that productions take to become a reality.

Bottle Tree Productions has a strong pedigree, with playwright Charles Robertson (formerly AD for Theatre 5) and Anne Marie Mortensen as the driving forces behind the success of this company and its many productions. After having anchored The Wellington Street Theatre for five years, they are happy to have a new home at St.Andrew's Presbyterian Church. This community partnership is a win-win situation as they discover common needs and ability to share resources to help each other succeed. This is one of the goals of this company - to form meaningful and lasting partnerships in the Kingston community and in the Theatre community at large, including internationally, starting with our one-act play contest, and aspiring to larger goals in the future.

As the second administrative team to helm The Wellington Street Theatre, and of course, as theatre practitioners, Charles and Anne Marie were proud donors to the Grand Theatre Restoration Fund, in concert with the founders of the Wellington Street Theatre, Michael Catlin, David Hurley, Cliff Edwards. The Grand Theatre was Kingston's municipal theatre for decades but had fallen into disrepair, and needed a make-over. So the theatre community and Kingston's generous donors raised funds to renovate - a job which was completed in 2009.

The company is also grateful to the Kingston Christian School, where they offer classes on Saturdays. This west-end Kingston location offers acting classes in an area that is underserved by the arts in general, and by theatre specifically. Class information can be found here.
