Mahi Raptis and Colin Morris in Pirates of Penzances

Co-production with KCVI

Ian Juby had done the musical direction for Cats and when he heard we were going to do Pirates of Penzance he asked us if we would consider doing a co-production at the high school he was teaching music at; KCVI. Kevin Fraser was the drama teacher and we were happy to do it. There was a very talented band of young performers at KCVI which has had a long and storied connection with the performing arts.

Mahi Raptis lent her stunning voice to the production as Mabel and Colin Morris who plays the male romantic lead: Frederic acquitted himself admirably singing out of his range as a tenor. Andrew Bala played the Pirate King and Matt Roby played General Stanley who is Mabel's father

This is a very silly concoction of soft satire and wonderful music. This was the fifth collaboration between W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. They opened the show in New York and it was met with great success.

The production in Kingston was mounted at the venerable old theatre at the high school which is over 150 years old and at The Wellington Street Theatre which has been adapted from a church into a theatre. It is around 155 years old. It was a very successful co-production and we hope to have many more.
