To Whom it May Concern

I reccomend to your attention Charles Robeertson's one-act two-person play Ghost of the Tree

This series of linked monologues (with occasional linked interpolations by the "ghost" of the title, who represents a universal female essence) traces the ancestry of a homeless girlthrough 6 previous generations, from her self-centered yuppie mother to her disconsolate English-born great-great-great-grandmother. It might be called not a "memory" play but an "empathy" play: a series of brief but haunting glimpses into the lives, aspirations, fears and disappointments of seven related but very different women

Although I have only read it and have not seen it performed, I have no doubt of its theatrical appeal. Combining pathos, humour, irony and lyricism, it offers its principal actress(who plays all seven generations of mothers and daughters) the opportunity to give a virtuoso display not just of technique but of emotional range.

Although it is by nature more of a succession of vignettes than a drama of sustained action, Ghost of the Tree is nonetheless an ingeniously conceived, poignant, engaging and thoroughly entertaining meditation on time, motherhood and the choices that shape our lives-and the lives of those that succeed us. I certainly think it is well worth any theatre's consideration.

Yours Sincerely
